Ruby Reviews: Cloud Star Tricky Trainers

The nice people at Cloud Star sent Ruby a selection of their Chewy Tricky Trainer and Crunchy Tricky Trainer treats to review, and she was more than happy to sample the chewy version in all three flavors (Cheddar, Salmon and Liver) and the crunchy version in Cheddar and Salmon while working on some new tricks over the weekend.

Both the chewy and crunchy versions are wheat and corn free with a small list of quality ingredients.  They are made in the USA and Cloud Star has been around since 1999.  The packaging is adorable - what is cuter than a dog riding a bicycle?

The crunchy treats are a lovely size, and while they are not as aromatic and attention-getting as the chewy treats, I find they make a perfect goodie for trick training inside the house.  Ruby especially liked the cheddar flavor, and we used them for teaching "paws up" on a step-stool, and "over" and "under" with my foot propped on the stool.  With a mere six ingredients, the first being dried cheddar cheese, I feel confident that these are a healthy way to get that tail wagging.

Ruby considered the chewy treats, particularly the liver flavor, of high enough value for taking on the road and using for leash-walking rewards.  They can be broken into even smaller pieces if needed.  Ruby was very focused on earning as many as possible! They are sweetened with maple syrup and the first ingredient is chicken liver.  The other two flavors have similarly outstanding ingredients.  They don't contain any artificial colors, flavors or byproducts. I think they will be making a regular appearance in our treat jar.

This post has been updated - the original version contained a giveaway which has ended.

  1. My dogs aren't great at learning tricks, but we just taught one of our guys (a couple days ago to be exact) how to high-five and wave! Just goes to show that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks :D

  2. Thanks for your comment, Patricia! Ruby is the first dog I've had who is so keen on tricks - I can't seem to think new ones up fast enough! You can *always* teach an old dog new tricks!

  3. Oh, Blueberry loves these! These are perfect for hiding around the house for her to 'find it' when I leave for work. :)

  7. Grrr. The internet ate my comment.

Kaiya will do anything for the chance to chase a tennis ball, but Little Jacks and similarly sized smelly treats also work well.

  8. Cairo's favourite treats are these horrible basted lung squares. They're freeze dried and look like steak. I just try not to think about what they are. They're made in the USA so that's why I let her have them. http://www.petflow.com/product/heartland-premium/heartland-premium-dry-roasted-beef-lung-dog-treats?utm_source=googprod&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=1&gclid=CMHr1M-R9LoCFccRMwodEkkAMw

    1. I gave in to bully sticks, which *should* be the most disgusting thing ever, but the lungs...

I got a lamb's ear in one of her Bark Boxes. It had the little curl at the base where it was hacked off - tossing it was wasteful but I just. Couldn't.

  9. My dog's best and most useful trick is is playing dead. Having that was the best thing for the two dogs I installed that on that were a little nervous about having nails trimmed. Laying down and still has made that a breeze, not just for me, but for my family who doesn't have much nail trimming experience! :)

    1. Tricks can have practical applications, can't they?

Ruby does a version of playing dead, lying flat on her side - we call it "relax." Relaxing is something she does very little of for real, but she can pull it off for a few seconds :)

  10. I love Tricky Trainers! I'm a fan of small, none crumbly treats, and my trio love these the best.

If all three dogs were one I could have an amazing array of tricks. Sadly, they are not.
