#WeruvaDog Gives Us More Reasons to Love Kibble

There is a lot of information to keep up with when it comes to deciding what to feed your dog. Trends change and new brands pop up every day. Rotation feeding has been the right choice for me and my dogs, and I am always excited to find a new food to add to our rotation. While we feed a little bit of everything, I keep kibble in The Ginger Sisters' rotation for many reasons, not the least of which are high quality options like WeRuVa® Caloric Melody.

One of the things I love about the rotation diet is the ability to feed high quality foods that could be cost prohibitive if fed exclusively. Weruva is a super premium kibble brand made with responsibly sourced ingredients. I am already a fan of the brand, regularly including their canned cuisine that is produced in a human grade facility in The Ginger Sisters' breakfast meal. We previously took a look at the Caloric Harmony line of dry dog food, which is at a slightly higher price point and comprised of 80% animal-based protein, This time we tried the Caloric Melody line, a more budget-friendly option with 70% animal-based protein.

The Lamb Dinner with Lentils formula includes a novel protein and noble grains, and like all the Weruva dry food, the majority of its calories come from protein. Because beef and chicken are in so many foods and treats, I prefer to feed Ruby and Boca different proteins in their kibble whenever possible. Knowing how important our pets' safety is, not even vitamins and minerals are ever sourced from China. Imagine your dog's dinner plate with a nice healthy serving of boneless grass-fed New Zealand lamb, accompanied by whole eggs and salmon oil for healthy skin and coat and pumpkin for healthy digestion.

Feeding kibble gives me flexibility in the way that I feed and becomes a convenient palette for any supplements or toppings I want to add. As a family-owned company dedicated to providing pet parents with the best ingredients and protein-rich nutrition, Weruva gives me confidence in a complete and balanced diet for my dogs regardless of what I decide to mix it with. Here is an example of The Ginger Sisters' dinner menu, the first five ingredients from the Lamb Dinner with Lentils - which many independent sources will tell you are the most important - being lamb meal, de-boned lamb, split peas, lentils and chickpeas:

Ruby and Boca find Weruva's Caloric Melody tasty enough to use for training - some nights Boca will eat from her puzzle bowl while Ruby and I train in the other room. Ruby eagerly showed off some of her tricks - including "sit pretty" and paw target - for this photo shoot, and both girls watched with rapt interest as the Weruva bag went into their dog food bin. This weekend I took a pocketful of kibble outside to work on our recall training on the long line and Boca didn't want to leave my side. I know The Ginger Sisters will agree that the Caloric Melody line is one to keep in our rotation.

  5. I think my kids would really love this. I feed them grain free and switch out the flavors, but this looks like something new to try that would be really good for them.

Beautiful pictures. Someone knows how to really ham it up for the camera!

  6. We have Ruby on a rotational diet as well. She loves Weruva canned food as well as the dry food. We tried the Caloric Harmony, but will definitely also try the Caloric Melody. Adorable pictures and I love that bowl.

    1. Isn't the rotation diet great? I can't imagine feeding any other way. The puzzle bowls are in my top favorite pet products, slows Boca down and keeps picky Ruby interested!

  7. You have inspired me to try a rotation diet with Simon, Piper and Zora. Piper is on a grain free, single protein diet. Zora is on a reduced calorie diet and Simon can (and will) eat anything so it can be a challenge to find the right foods to feed. I appreciate the recommendation and I LOVE that puzzle bowl!

    1. The bowls are so great. I have three different ones and the girls have their dinner out of them most nights. Ruby is not a fast eater but the bowls seem to add interest to her meal. Boca will inhale her food if given the opportunity so she gets the more challenging spiral bowl.

  8. Next time I see Weruva, I think I'm going to pick some up. Have heard lots of good things about the canned cat food especially.

    1. I wish Nina would eat the cat food, but she will only eat pate style. The Ginger Sisters especially love the Paw Lickin' Chicken, which is just shredded white meat in gravy!

  9. I haven't tried Weruva, but it seems like a very responsible company. I appreciate that they include the country of origin for all their proteins.

  10. Okay first off the photo of their dinner looks amazing....I think I wanna try it. And the fact that Ruby allows it as trick treats! So jealous. To get my pups to do anything I gotta get a hotdogs or something shimmy and messy. And the lamb and lentils....that sounds like something my pups need to try!!!

  11. This sounds like a really great kibble! I've been looking for different brands to add to the pups' rotation, and this sounds like it may be perfect.

  12. I agree- choosing a pet food should be between the pet and the owner. Trends are always changing! Weruva makes great foods. My cats love their cat food. :) It looks like this is another great product!

  14. We're all about rotation! We tried this one, too, and it really worked for Emmett. I'm adding it to my list of go-to foods because it checked every box on my list, and it seems to be reasonably priced!
